I think President Carter is right on with his remarks. Loyalty is certainly admirable… i.e. Lieberman’s dedication to Bush, but blind loyalty is just plain stupid. People want leaders who are capable of making the right decision and having the courage to reevaluate those decisions and change course if needed. Leadership isn’t about the appearance of being right… it’s about actually being right. Blind loyalty gets people killed. Lieberman doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the conflict in Iraq, he’s supporting President Bush so that he can have his way when it comes to supporting Israel.

“He’s joined in with the Republican spokespersons by saying that Democrats who disagree are really supporting terrorism,” Carter said. “So for all these reasons, I’ve lost my confidence in Joe Lieberman and don’t wish to see him re-elected.”
